Reproducing (accurately) the colour of this coin was a real task! I have reduced the photomicrographs (below) to greyscale because the colours introduced by the halogen/fluorescent combination of lighting I used were so far from from natural as to be useless.

These two shots (above) were taken outside, in bright sunlight. Even so, my green and ferny backyard introduced a greenish caste to the coin which I have tried to very gently tweak back to "natural". The coloured spots on the "before" image are mainly artefacts of jpg compression.
